Adaptation of Digital Image Correlation for measurements of displacements and strains with the use of modern mobile devices

The standard Digital Image Correlation (DIC) method is currently widely used for displacements and strains measurements of objects in the fields such as experimental mechanics and materials engineering, in laboratory as well as in  in-situ conditions. Carrying out measurements with the use of DIC, however, requires careful preparation of the measurement equipment as well as significant experience of the operator.

The main aim of the project is adaptation of DIC for modern mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets or intelligent digital cameras and simplification of the measurement procedure, what in consequence will lead to wider utilization of the method in industrial practice by technical inspection authorities or underwriters.  Realisation of this aim requires utilization of the automatic DIC data merging method, which enables DIC measurements in the case, when the DIC equipment cannot be left unattended at the measurement site between consecutive data series. [more]
